I wouldn't give the current road conditions a second thought for travel next summer. Alaska Highway construction techniques are not like the lower 48. Rip up 15 miles of road as in gone not a inch of payment left in either direction, use pilot cars to route the traffic on the bulldozed alternate route including dry river beds. It's all taken in stride and part of a great trip.
What scared me was the trip down I5 in N CA last summer. A totally uneventful trip for us. Then 2 hours later the Carr fire swept across I5 burning cars and trucks with people running for their lives. That after the fact scared the hel* out of me as we were so very lucky.
