OK, well assuming AK will have roads adequate for RV travel, is there a lot or some interest in gathering at some place in either southern BC or Alberta and loosely caravaning to AK?
We have thought of paying for a caravan tour like from Fantasy tours, but I think it might me just as much fun and a lot cheaper to form our own group.
Anyone interested?
I'll be in the MT or WA area around the middle of June 2019. We have no schedule yet but our return will be dictated by the weather.
INMHO one of the best parts of a trip to Alaska from the lower 48 is being able to find and stay at particularly scenic spots for a few days..or on the other hand move on swiftly through some ugly towns and places in Canada along the way. Dont get me wrong there are many beautiful ones also.
A caravan imposes if not an actual limit to your choices (because they are made in advance for you)or in one like you describe, a peer group implied pressure to not break up the group. Thus having to stay where they want not necessarily where you want.
When I see these huge RV caravans going through Alaska they are just like giant tour groups being herded from one place to another and told where to park and camp...
The trip is easy all paved except construction areas with plenty of fuel, parking and eating spots all along the way.
If you want to be in a group you might as well take a cruise.
This is just my outlook on it.
