My info is dated, as we went up to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia back in 2008. We drove quite a bit of the secondary roads including route 111 from St. John to St. Martin and back to the TCH at Sussex then route 114 to Fundy NP and on to Moncton. My recollection is that the secondary roads weren't good, but not altogether horrible. Some sections in NS were much worse than what we experienced in NB, bad enough that driving as fast as the speed limit was impossible due to bumps or frost heaves.
I don't recall route 114 being especially bad. The pictures below are of route 114 on the way from the TCH to Fundy.


As an aside, Fundy NP was good, but IMO the best place to experience the Fundy tides was Hopewell Rocks.
