route 64/15 Tennessee

Has anyone traveled route 64/15 from Chattaanooga to Memphis? We are going to give it a run in 2 weeks, anything interesting along the way?

If you have the time you can use GOOGLE MAPS street view and literally drive the route you want to see at the street level.

We do this sometimes to check out new roadways to us.

We also use GOOGLE MAPS to check out new to us RV PARKs... Gives us a great bird's eye view of the camp sites you may to make reservations for. Of course some places are totally covered by trees and you don't get to view much. ELKMONT in the SMOKY MTNs is such a place. I think you only get to see one short maybe 50-foot road area due to the almost 100% tree cover over the entire camp ground.

  • Google milebymile Tennessee US Hwy 64 or visit www.milebymile.com
  • We have travelled this way many times, but not in the last 5 years or so. We have been on parts of 64 over on the west side quite recently. You will need to take I24 out of Chattanoogo up to Monteagle, then pick up 64. Just not much other way to get there. Monteagle will be about the steepest climb just don't get in a rush and you can make it OK. There is also 156 from Chattanooga over to US64, but not unless you are small and a lot of power, pull and steering both. Take your time and watch roadsigns for things to do. It is a very interesting drive with lots to see, just don't get in a hurry. Several good campgrounds on the way, Lawrensburg has Davie Crockett State Park, and I understand they have just finished a major campground upgrade.
  • One more thing, several of the towns you pass through now have bypasses around the main part of town. Example, Lawrenceburg. Check up-to-date and local maps, and if in doubt, ask. It is a great drive through some of the better(more Scenic) parts of Tennessee, especially on the eastern side. Western side, so-so, but there are still places to stop and enjoy. There are lots of older attractions, many are interesting just because of their age. What will you be driving??
  • Thank you all for the guidance, we're looking forward to this trip. We are driving a Sunseeker 2300 and this is our 3rd trip to Tennessee in 2 yrs and we just love seeing the different areas and have met some great folks there. We have 2 more months to run the wheels off it, then winter hits. Love this rving thing.
  • Take I 24 north from Chattanooga, to Monteagle. Then Take 41A to Winchester and pick up HEY 64. Almost all 4 lane now. Take your time and enjoy the road.
