Route advice From I-81 S, east to Concord (Charlotte) NC

If Spring ever comes to upstate NY we plan to head South to Concord, NC, middle of May. First leg is south down I-81 then East to Concord NC. Looking for advice on route east from I-81 to Conc...

I-77 south to I-85 East is the best route to Concord, NC from I-81.

Keep in mind that mid May is a very busy camping time in the Concord area with the NASCAR race going on. Campsites area at a premium around the middle to late May timeframe. The Sprint showdown is May 16 and other lessor races around that time and later. The big race is on May 25 this year.
