Route advice From I-81 S, east to Concord (Charlotte) NC

If Spring ever comes to upstate NY we plan to head South to Concord, NC, middle of May. First leg is south down I-81 then East to Concord NC. Looking for advice on route east from I-81 to Conc...

We took I-88 to I-81 on our way to Florida from upstate NY, and then I-77 through Charlotte, NC. We stayed at the Ft Chiswell RV Park near Max Meadows, VA before jumping on I-77. It's a great overnight spot just off I-81 only a mile or two south of the I-77 junction, and very quiet.
