- SteveAEExplorerHwy 20 though Burns will be faster than Hwy 26. 26 is scenic though if you want to take your time.
Hwy 20 from Bend to I-5 is fine, just take your time. If in the winter, watch the weather forecasts / road conditions and delay in Bend if needed. I suggest bypassing Corvallis by taking Hwy 34 from Lebanon. It will hook back up with Hwy 20 on the West side of Corvallis.
Have fun,
Steve - MurphsmomExplorerWe take 20 from Ontario to Bend when we go that way. Be sure you have a full tank of gas when you leave Burns, as there are no fuel stops between Burns and Bend.
From Bend we go through Sisters and stay on 20 through Sweet Home and Lebanon and on to Corvallis. If you are headed to Newport, the road from Philomath to the coast is a good road.
Hwy 20 from Hoodoo summit is narrow, winding and fairly steep, but we have traveled it both ways towing our Cougar. Just watch out for the road signs that indicate a "sunken grade", as they mean a serious drop in the level of the pavement. Slow waaaaay down!
There is a great county campground at the bottom of the grade, before you get to Sweet Home (Riverbend). Large sites, very clean showers and hookups for water and electric.
Have a great trip...and wave as you cross the Idaho/Oregon border. - donn0128Explorer IIIf you want to start up north then I84 to Portland, I205 to I5 north to Longview, cross the bridge and follow 30 to Asroria. Node drive and Fort Stevels state park is a must stop for all the history there.
