Route to Myrtly Beach

We are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach. When I mapped the route out from North Java NY, it has me going 20A thru Warsaw NY. On the map it shows a warning for a overpass of 12ft 4in. Does anyone know if there is a by pass and how do I get around it.
  • I don't know the exact answer to your question, but we were stuck in Port Jarvis, NY once because all the bridges were signed as 12'6....called police for routing advice and were told that NY law requires bridges to be marked for 1 foot less than they actually are...which seems stupid at best.

Maybe your obstruction is just signage and the bridge is higher. Having said that, it looks like a weight restriction to me. I would check with local authorities. NY is the wild west of bridges....

  • Two things.

Once I was told that "Clearance" signage does have a 1 foot lower number in the measurement. If it states "Actual" then it is the actual measurement.

Second I avoid Warsaw, NY because of the steep grades in and out of town. West bound even has one of those truck pull-offs for brake testing before the desent!

I checked my maps and the bridge is on the east side of Warsaw and you would be on a steep grade with no place to turn around, please avoid!

For us the best route is I95 South out of Northern Neck Virginia using US301 to I295 to get around Richmond VA... I295 runs into I95 a few miles south of the Richmond VA and then we will run this route through VA-NC. A couple of nice stops for us is Emporia VA and WILSON NC.

South of the Border on the NC/SC border used to be hugh mega stop back in the day but things sort of cleared out after the Casino materialized for some reason... In the old days all the shops were full of Beach stuff since most of the travelers were usually in route to the South Carolina beaches

After going through the South of the Border and Dillon SC areas we start looking for the SC 38 exit which is also a RV friendly Flying J Travel Plaza. SC38 will cross US301 and then blend in with US501 heading for Conway SC. At Conway we look for the SC 544 road which is great to bypass some of the Mytrle Beach business areas and crosses over US17 and runs into the BUS US17.

The SC 544 at BUS US17 is just across the street from the Oceans lakes Campground and the next campground North is our destination being the Lakewood Camping Resort.

The SC38/US501 route is a great road for large RV's and the LAKEWOOD Camping Resort has large identifying billboards along the way.

We always see alot of big RV rigs along this route...
