- hellbird503ExplorerSorry I didn't get back sooner. Rt. 191 south from bluff,ut to rt 160 is horrible for towing a fifth wheel, maybe not a car. The road has numerous cracks and you are just beating up your fiver. Had to slow down to 45 mph in some areas and 55 was max. Glad to be past that. Thank you for your replies, Dave
- pauljExplorer III assume you want to go from Bluff to US160 and then take that east (based on another thread). I have done part of it. Coming from Cortez I took a county road (just north of the airport) west to Utah, where it meets UT162. From there I headed SW to Mexican Hat and then north to Natural Bridges (up M Dugway).
There wasn't anything special about the stretch of 162 that I took. Mostly along a valley with settlements and oil wells. The county road was also easy driving (in a car), and passed a couple of 'canyons of the ancients' Nat Monument sites. Hovenweep NM can also be accessed from this side.
What was the nature of the roughness on US191? Lots of potholes, patched cracks? Or tilted slabs? ruts? chipseal? - dkreuzenExplorerI take 163 through Monument Valley a couple of times a year. It's rough in spots and has a couple of steep grades but the view is spectacular and makes it worth it. I have also taken 191 and it is very rough in the northern section and it is not any faster like some think.
