A few years ago we stopped at a town-operated RV park in Chinook MT. 15 or so miles south of Chinook is the Bear Paw battlefield National Historic site - well worth a visit to this site of Chief Joseph's surrender after his long flight from Idaho (See Chief Joseph War) in about 1870. Nice interpretations etc) We were lucky enough to be on site to witness the end of the Nez Perce ride/commemoration - about 200, in full regalia and decorated horses and great memorial service!!
