- bgumExplorerIf not there should be. There is at least one hair pin switch back.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIAccording to the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers' there is a sign "Trucker's notice--US 89A not recommended for heavy trucks". "Southbound you will have 7% grade downhill for 3 miles, many curves including several 15 mph hairpin turns. The road is also very narrow. It has an additional 5&6% sections, narrow and winding." I don't believe there are actual restrictions.
Here's a YouTube driving it. You decide. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RKWqar-QWs - sch911ExplorerYes, 50 ft overall maximum.
- Lady_FitzgeraldExplorerI do NOT recommend driving anything larger than a crew cab pickup truck on that road due to the steep grade and hairpin turns. It's a pretty drive so take it in a toad but do not drive an RV into Oak Creek Canyon from either end (turn around space is almost non-existent). You would be better off taking I-17 south from Flagstaff to 179. Even that one can be a little bit tricky because of the stupid roundabouts that have become the rage here in AZ the last few years (I would love to get my hands on the morons who made that idiotic decision).

I don't believe this pertains from Flagstaff to Sedona.
There is a length limit of 50' on 89A from Cottonwood, AZ south through Jerome and a 40' limit on 89 (not 89A) from Prescott south.
However, the OP didn't mention these two restricted areas. - russkerriExplorer

Ha! We had trouble with those, as well. I'm for the concept of roundabouts, in general, but some of the ones in Sedona were too small for long vehicles to have enough clearance to jump in with all of the traffic.
We stayed in Rancho Sedona and were warned by the campground not to take 89A from Flagstaff and to use the interstate instead. - RoyBExplorer IIIts was even exciting in my OFF-ROAD Jeep. AT least 4-5 loopbacks in a roll at the bottom of OAKCREEK VISTA on 89A.
Always enjoyed visiting the VISTA and spending a couple of hours walking around looking at the Native Indian items on display there. Quite a shop meet... Used to be the place to go to get good deals on Hopi collector-quality and Navajo souvenir-quality Kachinas as well as pottery, artifacts and jewelry.
The Vista was also neat where you sit way up high overlooking the loop backs and all of the cars going hrough them. Good Coffee stop sitting on a big rock hehe...
Its even more exciting waking up in the mornings tent or sleeping bag camping around the Red Rock Canyons of Sedona with the morning sun first hitting Red Rocks... Been there done that many of times...
Roy Ken - RoyBExplorer II2gypsies - Thanks for the YOUTUBE trip down the 89A from the Oak Creek Vista area. Brought back some good memories from the past...
Roy Ken - JanssExplorer IIPretty sure I've seen a 50ft limit sign when exiting I-17 at the Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon exit a couple miles south of Flagstaff.
I don't recommend driving 89A with a large RV. - RoyBExplorer IIJust did a SNIP from google maps showing the loop-backs at OAK CREEK VISTA on 89A... I need the practice snipping views from google earth maps... It's not quite CLICK CLICK yet for me to do this...
