My wife and I drove over 9500 miles in 96 days this past summer in a loop from Florida west to SoCal and then up to Washington and then back east across the northern states to the Midwest where we cut southeast back to Florida. We planned the route based on a couple of National parks we wanted see and then took our time at the Welcome centers as we came into each state to see what was close to our route. If you have time before your trip and you knew your route, you can go to the various state tourist sites and they will send you more reading material than you will have time to read. You mentioned that you would be staying a major RV parks. There are many City & County parks in the US that have facilities for camping. A number of them also have very nice historical museums. My advice, if you take it, is to take your time and look for the hidden gems.
