RVing in Central America

Hi There all your Rvers

I wanted to put a post on here about going south with your RV.

When we started to plan our trip to Central America I found little information on here with the exception of Mexico. Now that we have nearly completed our trip and covered 8 countries in Cental America, we would like to share our experience with you.

If amyone out there is thinking of Rving down here please feel free to ask us a question.

The main thing once you leave Mexico and head south is your vehicle , we stored our large 5th wheel and purchased a Lance truck camper soley for this trip as a small RV is needed down here.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Julea & Alan

  • Help me out here...how safe is it to motor through Mexico these days? I have heard that part of the trip may be the most dangerous? Also no guns allowed correct? Sounds like a great adventure but with the Cartels activities and lack of the ability to defend one's self I am a bit reluctant. Tell me why I shouldn't be?

    Why?

Quite safe except maybe Honduras and parts of the Peten in Guatemala. What do ypu prefer? Spend your life on a couch?

The reverse can be said as well...

LOL You said it better than I was about to!

  • Please continue to post your travells, do not be discouraged by the ones that post nonsence and ignorant coments, they evidentlly do not travel out side theire comfort zone.

There are some of us that welcome and apreciate all post related to travelling South, I made the trip to Pnama, did not have enough money for the boat transfer from Panama to Colombia, so turned arround and headed back with my trusty 1968 VW bus.

  • Though most of the posts on this forum are about Mexico the actual name of the forum is - RVing in Mexico and South America - though Central America is not in the title we can assume this would be the place to post. There are currently people on this forum who are in Central America - Guatemala at last report - see their posts in the thread "Ready Set Go" .
  • That would be cool to read your trip report. Lots of people travel Central/South America and love it but not many do it by rv. We are wanting to do the same thing in the next two years, smaller rv like a Class B or a truck camper and go all the way around.
  • Rolling:

I suggest that you post your "trip report" (if you have put one together) or, a link to your trip report/blog over in Truck Camper forum. I founded the Trip Reports section in the Truck Camper forum years ago, and have handed the reins over to a fellow World traveler (Steve, or SabConsulting, {who regularly does expeditions through the Sahara, Namibia and South Africa with his truck camper-- based out of England}).

Truck Camper Trip Reports V2 -->

Our contingent of truck campers forum members are from all over the World, and many are subscribed the Overlanding Journal and Expedition Portal (and participate in the Overland Expo, held in Arizona every spring). Numerous of us have done some of the most daunting places on Earth in our truck campers. Not to take away from this RVing in Mexico Forum, I encourage you to post in both :C

On edit: A few members on the periphery of the RVing in Mexico forum can be, um, somewhat parochial; however, the VAST majority of members here are true well-respected hard-core Latin America-experienced RVers-- some with decades of on-the-ground...:B

    Cheers,
