In the larger European cities where many of the famous antiquities are situated and sought after by local and international tourists, parking is non existent. Train stations are usually well situated in the downtown core where everything is happening. From here, buses, subways, trollys, cabs will take you to any place that you do not care to walk to.
We bought a tiny "C" in England and toured around Europe and when it came to the larger centres, we just parked in some small village that had a train station outside of the city. Grabbed a train and returned that evening. In some of the smaller cities/towns that have a touristy centre square or maybe a church or walled old section, there are usually parking areas fairly close by where the RV's, tour buses etc have to park as there is just no room even for small cars.
From May to October, most of Europe has plenty of campgrounds to stay at with very good shower/washroom facilities and cooking areas. When it comes to winter time, most shut down with only a few campgrounds along the southern coast of the Mediterranean which remain open all year. Almost all campgrounds have websites so it is easy to check on the months these campgrounds are open.
Over the years we have noticed an increase in RV's both in numbers and size. But the smaller the vehicle the easier it is to get around if you are comfortable with something much smaller than your 5er. The camping is very different than back home.
Have fun.
