Sounds fun. We are still thinking of doing this. Not sure yet. But here are a few things you should know.
You can buy a rig there with no residency requirements. Heres how. There is a Dutch company (also with a dealer in Germany) that will sell you the rig, keep it in their name as well as yours, look after the insurance, have it all prepped for you and give you a guaranteed buy back price (based on condition of course). They have a variety of units at a variety of prices. They also have a good reputation. If you are interested I will dig it up for you. We have already been in contact with them.
Next. You can only stay in the Schengen zone for 90 days and then you have to leave. Too easy, go to England for 90 days. Then you can come back to europe for another 90 days. Then you have to leave again, no problem, go to Morocco. Very cool country and a great Muslim experience. There is a company that offers 3 to 6 week tours of Morocco by motorhome. I have the links if your are interested.
Although we have never stayed in a European campground we have taken opportunities during our overseas travels to visit campgrounds in many countries with the thought we might do it someday. Here are a few shots of a snowbird park in Spain.

Hows your foreign language skills. In tourist areas you can get away with english but getting off the beaten track is the funnest part of the experience and English gets kinda scarce in many (not all) of the countries when you are not in tourist areas. My point is just be comfortable with that kinda sceenario. Its kinda part of the experience...and I speak four languages. :)
Anyway, let me know if I can help. I'm not an expert but we have done a fair bit of homework on the subject. Oh...and don't miss Morocco. Very cool place to visit with or without an RV. Kind of an alternate to spain snowbird destination for some Europeans.
Here is Angela blending in with the natives in Tangiers. No women don't have to wear them...but I kinda like it. :)

Cheers. Happy planning.
