Thanks to all for posting. I've got some homework to do. I'm planning this as a 2018 solo trip. I'll be coming off an Alaskan/ Canadian trip from 8/15/16 to about 10/1/17, so I'l be ready for Europe by early spring 2018 through whenever I leave - maybe even after Christmas.
I undstand the legal travel issues I think. I'd be traveling just with a passport and obeying the rules regarding the 90 day limit within the Schengren Area. The UK/ Ireland areas are very much in the trip plan.
Biggest issue is vehicle, cuz I'd like to improve my circumstance of paying $20,000 in hire cost or whatever it is to rent. I'm looking into buy back programs, etc. I don't know much yet about these programs, but nothing is free. The vendor will either get his/her economic return in a hire rate or below market buy back price.
I do not want a right hand driver cuz I don't need that added stress, so I'd like to buy, and sell, if at all, in Germany and avoid VAT (the export tag option).
If after boiling down all "ownership" options, I only save like $5,000, then I'll just rent rather than loose brain cells.
I have no interest in owning the Class C, if I buy one, after this trip ends. If I ship an American Class C over, then what are my disposition options? I'm assuming I have to ship it back to the US, where the regs make it marketable. Seems like if I sold in in Europe, the physical conversions to their standards would be prohibitive; don't know.
Anyhow, I'm looking into all this. Owning would also provide a much desired flexibility in when I could elect to leave, plus I could make changes to the vehicle that I prefer.
Thanks for all the comments and linked resources. I'll keep you posted.
