Here are some more ideas for you.
Calgary Stampede, July 4-13 book early to get want you want, great campground is in Cochrane called Bow Rivers edge campground. They have a shuttle into Calgary that is available, if you think you may wan to to this book the campground now as it is usually full during the stampede . There is another campground up Hwy 22 about 5 miles however I have never stayed there and it is right beside Hwy 22 and on the open prairie besides a gas station. Also close to Calgary is Calaway park, and small amusement park, however you being from Texas are used to bigger attraction like this. There are also a number of Hot springs in the east and west Kootenays and they are , Radium Hot Spring, ( town of the same name) Farmount Hot Spring, ( town of the same name) Ainsworth Hot Springs, ( town of the same name) Nakusp Hot Springs ( town of the same name ) and Halcyon Hot Springs, just north of Nakusp, there are full hookup campgrounds near all of these Hot springs. In Kaslo which is just west of Ainsworth Hot Springs is the Dry docked Sternwheeler Moyie which is open for tours. Kaslo is located on Kootenay Lake and there is a FREE ferry ride across the lake about 15 miles east that is the longest free ferry ride in the world. Also there are fishing guide / boats available on Kootenay lake to catch Rainbow Trout upwards of 30 pounds, Slip-shot Charters is the best and ask for Kootenay lake charter as there are other lakes and rivers available.
Kids may not think to much of this one but on the 30 mile stretch of the Kootenay river between Nelson and Castlegar are 8 hydro electric dams which most can be seen from the . On the Slocan River you can rent Kayaks and or inner tubes and float down the river. There is also the Ghost town of Sandon which is located between Kaslo and New Denver. A great hike is up-to Idaho Peak, which is just above Sandon, can't get you RV up that road thou past Sandon, so may have to search for a guide in the area. On Summit lake near Nakusp there is a campground where we have our 5er parked as a seasonal called Three Island Resort, nice small campground on a small lake with full hook ups sandy beach, row boats to rent which is close to Nakusp and New Denver . Google any of these places to get up to date info. Send me a private message if you need anymore info on my backyard.
