- DownTheAvenueExplorerMy advice is don't do it. The risk is too great that you will encounter gigantic bureaucratic roadblocks that could result in the seizure of your dogs and they being held unless you pay mega bucks for "fees."
- TucsonJimExplorer IIProbably impossible. To enter most countries you need certificates of health that are no more than 10-30 days old. Sometimes you need to get these certificates verified in a country's consulate before leaving the U.S. Check out the site below and it will give you information on each country's requirements. You could potentially end up having your pets quarantined or confiscated if things don't go well.
Pet Import Requirements - TequilaExplorerYou can get them into Mexico, but other countries are pretty well impossible. Trek of the America's who run RV caravans down to South America forbid pets because of this. If anyone knew it could be done, it would be them, and they can't. He told me many countries have strict quarantine procedures. If you want to wait a few months at each border, maybe you can do it..
- DieselBurpsExplorerI guess I got lucky and had the opposite experience. Drove all through Mexico and Central America with a large lovable 130 lb Newfoundland, no papers, and they never said a thing.
- Talleyho69ModeratorWe say take your dogs, too. The health certificate thing is easy. It's form APHIS 7001 available on line. Fill it out and date it appropriately. Print.
Ours have been to Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, of course, and Belize. The only one that can be a little sticky is Belize, but other than a short cut, they don't have much to see or do. Read about them on line. Years ago, Panama didn't allow pets, but I have no idea about now. Should be easy to check on line.
Do it, and have a ball. Our two dogs and cat go everywhere, and will continue to. - TequilaExplorerMy mistake I got the impression he was going through to S America.
- JanisMurphyExplorerThank you all for your help.
Any suggestions as to what ever to buy? We are looking at a class c because of the roads. We have been to a couple of the countries and know many roads are not in great shape. - tony_leeExplorerOnce again the naysayers are having a field day.
We have come across lots of people who are traveling with pets in S America and they didn't have any problems. Certainly true that just as in the USA, every country has its own regulations, but from all accounts they aren't hard to satisfy.
I did have the URL of a blog where they went to a lot of trouble to spell out how they entered every country with dogs. I'll see if I can find it again.
Searching for "Traveling south Americ with dogs brings up a few possibilities.

We have always rented cars when we traveled in Central America and having even a class c rv is going to be tricky in some areas. So excited to finally have more than a few weeks to travel!
