Sabbatical AZ-NY

My work sabbatical countdown clock says 40 days, 7 hours and 45 minutes until my sabbatical starts - not that I am counting or anything. We will be on the road with the kids for ~50 days. Will be leaving for family in Kansas first. Then head up to Niagara Falls, Howe Caverns, Boston, Hammonasset Beach, New York City for a week, Washington DC for 2 weeks, Nashville, then home. Lots of stops on the way. Those are the major stops. Received my I-Pass a couple of days ago. Here is the picture of my route from Rand Mcnally TripMaker -

I made reservations last year. I made all of my reservations already. Thanks for the info.
  • In Ohio there is a lot to do in Dayton. Air Force Base & museum.

I live close to NF so I can help with getting around and with what to see.

First thing is bring your passports, to be able to see the Falls from Canada. I love to walk over the Rainbow Bridge and then walk through the gardens to the falls. Ontario has a wonderful park along the gorge, but it's no place for a RV or even a car.

If you need or want more info ask here or send a PM.

  • Dutchman,

Take a drive to Liberty and then to Brookville. Stop at the dam and walk across. On the way back up rt 101 swing into Mounds State Recreation area and take a drive through the campground (ask and they should let you do that) and then drive on down to the beach and check it out. State law says no homes can be built on the lake so all of the shoreline is nature. Then swing down old 101 to Ainsleys Cafe and have lunch on the deck overlooking the marina. If you have time swing into Whitewater State Park on the way back to Libery. We owned an RV lot at Brookville Lake Resort for 4 years when we lived in Nobleville and absolutely loved that part of Indiana.
  • Thanks. We are just doing overnights along the way from Kansas to Niagara Falls. I found a few campground if needed, but we are just going to find a place to park for the night most of those places (Casinos, truck stops, etc). I don't have anything planned. I do like the Rand Mcnally TripMaker because you can select a distance to search within your trip (for me I set it at 30 miles) and then go to "Things to Do" and select items that interest you. For example, we like "Science and Tech", "The Great Outdoors", "History and Heritage", "Picture Perfect", "Quirky and Oddball", and "Small Town Gems". There are a lot of places to see that way, just have to narrow them down. Like I said though, we will really just be trying to get back to Niagara Falls for our first real stop and reservation.
  • Well, when you are coming across Indiana on I-70, you might as well just keep the pedal to the metal and truck right on through. Unless there's something significant you want to see along I-70 in Indiana, you're going to find it a pretty dull part of your journey. I'm trying to think up some kind of attraction you might consider on that stretch of road, and actually, I can't think of a single thing, unless you decide to stop and see something in Indianapolis. The only campgrounds along I-70 in Indiana I know of are the 2 KOA's. One just East of Indianapolis and the other at Richmond, Indiana. Any other campground and you'll need to venture off the interstate some. Lots and lots of interesting things in the Southern part of the state, and lots of stuff in the Northern part (lots of Amish), but central Indiana???? dull as green brass!

Once you get East of Ohio, the trip should be VERY interesting! You'll love the New England states, and the East coast states!
