Safe Stop between El Paso and Las Cruces, New Mexico

Ok,y'all, I will be traveling between NE Texas and Scottsdale in a couple of weeks for a horse show. I have been told to try to get past El Paso the first day. Is there a good place to dry dock some...

If you can make it all the way to Las Cruces, I-10 exit 140, there is a Walmart. Security will met you as you pull in and show you where to park. He comes by real often day and night.
Also, at the same exit there is a Cracker Barrel for breakfast the next morning.
