Seeing Texas in 10 days is like spending one day in Yellowstone. You'll use up 4 days going and coming (and that's just getting to the Texas border). My recommendation is to just see the Big Bend region. Carlsbad Caverns (New Mexico), McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis, Big Bend National Park will do you.
