San Juan del lago (free this season)

I am at San Juan del lago just north of Morelia on the south shore of Lago de Cuitzeo. I met Arturo the owner about 4 years ago and had a look around. he has made a lot of progress. he has 2 caravans coming in this month, Caravanas de Mexico (english) & Caravanes Soleil (french). He is busy hooking up power, the bathrooms are spotless and high standard. He still has to get the water hooked up for the showers, but they should be done in week. Huge parking spots. He has cut back all the low trees on the route in. The climb up is still steep, but doable. Unfortunately the government will not let him put in access from the cuota. There are hot springs around here, so down the road, a hotsprings pool is possible.
  • Not to be confused with San Juan de los Lagos. That was an interesting visit and I still wonder why I was not struck down by a lightening bolt. \
Sorry, can find the english version so use your translator.

  • Arturo told me that camping is free this season, he will just take a donation for power. This is a good location on your way out when its too hot on the coast. To get here, look for the causeway into the town of Cuitzeo crossing the lake. There are 2, one is the toll road (westernmost), its the other one you want. Just south of the causeway there are 2 concrete bus stops. (N 19.9213 W 101.1429)At those stops take the road heading east (paved) pass through the small town and continue on. Phone Arturo at 443-228-3839 and he will guide you in. Arturo speaks perfect English. Very nice guy and he is paying his staff better than average wages. The park has wi fi.

The park also offers secure storage fro those wishing to leave RV's down here for summer.
