Scenic Route Poughkeepsie, NY to the Great Lakes area?

A lot of this answer depends on what you call "Scenic". Another problem is that we don't know what you are driving and how capable you are. That said, were I you, and I have been close, I would start by taking SR-28 across the Catskills. That would get me to the southern tier and I would take that to the Erie area. From there on, I would need to know more.

Matt, we are driving a 24 ft. class C Thor Siesta pulling a small car which I can use to visit sites where the rv cannot go.

In Canada, take the QEW to 407 to 400 to the trans-Canada highway (or whatever other routing you prefer to get to there). Cross back into the US at Salut Ste. Marie and continue south on I-75 or whatever to Mackinaw.
