Seattle, WA to San Antonio, TX in April - route suggestions?

Our favored route is Seattle to Portland, east south east to Salt Lake City, south on I 15 to I 70, east to 191 and south through Moab to Monticello UT, then 491 east over to 550 out of Durango CO and southeast to Albuquerque, and east to 285 and south to whatever road you want to pick when you get to TX.
But this is good IF you have clear weather forecast for most of the route.
If a big storm is going to be moving across, from the NW out to the plains, you're better off to head south on I 5 to I 10 and turn east. :)
