Shipping Agents

Would anyone have a recommendation for a RORO shipping agent from either coast to South America. We had been planning on heading south to Panama and on to Cartegena. However, with between the increased gang problems and the current drought making the living conditions a lot more difficult for many people in Central America, we are thinking that skipping around a few countries might be a better plan.
  • What I've learned so far. Get a shipping logistics firm, they can do all the paper work to get you on a ship out of country and do it all the time. I spent a couple of hours looking over shipping companies websites and mainly got more confused. The lady at Wilnaus-Williamson(SP?) ship line' www.2wglobal.com said it is the best money you can spend. There are at least three ship lines that run RORO from Houston or Galveston south approximately twice a month. We will probably ship our rig to the port on s stepdeck trailer as it is less expensive and time consuming than driving there(we've driven from Colorado to Texas every way possible), taking the time to ready the rig to go and then flying home. I'll need to pull the skylight plastic and put in something else to lose 3" of height for this to work. A good friends son is a trucking logistics guy for moving large and heavy loads anywhere in the country and he will help on the in country trucking end.

  • Yes, I have heard the same. I know of something being shipped from Cartegena to Jacksonville for about $2500 thru a Colombian shipping agent. Quotes over the internet are for $5500 minimum. I've heard very few prices for the Colon, Panama to Cartegena run except by container, but most rumors I've heard of would be in the $5k range as the boat has no competition. We wanted to do the traditional route south, but sometimes plans need to change.
  • Mike, I heard it is actually cheaper to ship RV to Columbia from the states, than Panama.
