So I and wanting to learn the best way to avoid low bridges road construction areas etc etc, what are you guys and girls using to plan your routes to avoid these pitfalls?

Buy a trucker's atlas it has the low clearance info:

There is also a low clearance overlay that works with pc mapping programs like Streets and Trips and the DeLorme software:

For either one to work you will have to look at them before you get to a low bridge. We came within 30 ft of hitting one in Montana this summer, right off I-90 too. My son noticed that it was low by spoting the height sign painted on the overpass side.
