So CA to Colter Bay Grand teton

Ok I can get to Las Vegas just fine for the first night. Second night and place to stay is where I need help.

Google says cut off the 15 at Provo and follow 189 up to Colter Bay. We will have had enough interstate by then so I am not inclined to follow 15 further unless there is some major issue.

I am thinking to stop between Provo and Evenston to split this drive in half. I assume it will be hot in July so I am looking to plug in for some cool air.

Any thoughts on the route or a place to stay one night is appreciated. :)
  • Haven't done the route Google came up with but have done this one - Stay on I15 to route 89 at Brigham City and stay on 89 all the way to Jackson. A very pretty drive all the way on 89 with 2 miles of 6-7% downgrade going into Garden City on Bear Lake. There is a KOA with hookups in Garden City.
  • Go for Golden Spike RV in Bringham City or if you want to get off the interstate earlier, Jordanelle State Park at Heber City is very nice. Then the next day you'll have a leisurely drive to Colter Bay via 89. Have a good trip!

Yep, this is the way we go....nice ride. There is a little RV park in Logan, UT with FHU and pull thru sites

  • I am doing the same route from San Diego in late June. Does anyone have a recommendation of a place to stay past Vegas? I was hoping to make it to Mesquite or St. George the first night. I won't need hook ups unless it's hot.
  • You'll need electric in June. :)

Sand Hollow State Park just outside of St. George is very nice. Take in nearby Zion National Park while you're at it. Have a good trip!
  • rhino,
Having lived in SD for 30 yrs (now live in Nevada)it will be a long trip much past Mesquite. Assuming you don't drive much more than 65, it will be about 6-7 hrs on the road to Mesquite. There isn't much there, except you can stay overnight in the Casablanca Casino. Dry camping. I've traveled that way a few times. If you want to PM me, we could discuss more in detail.

  • We made it to Leeds on I-15, north of St. George, in one long day from Orange County. Not a fun day, but not impossible. Decent RV park in Leeds -- very quiet.
