Really don't know why you would want to know that, but for argument sake lets just say Des Moines to Memphis.
Because there are alternative routes through Missouri and Illinois that avoid St Louis entirely, sometimes with less mileage and no more travel time, compared with the Interstates that got run through St Louis as a transportation nexus.
Des Moines to Memphis, St Louis is hard to avoid. Chicago to Dallas, or Minneapolis to Mobile, there are ways around the St Louis nexus.
