We use Delorme's Street Atlas because we don't need internet connections. We're in the boonies a lot. We've used it for more than 16 years of full-timing.

S&Ts & Delorme are very different from online apps & trip planning.

The apps & online trip planning are useless if you are traveling in an area where there is NO cell service. For the weekend warrior or the once a year 2 week road tripper the online stuff may serve them just fine.

For the full timing or multi month traveler the online stuff will not do. Stand alone navigation software is required & it needs to work wherever we may be to make changes on the fly & see everything that is around us.

I presently work with S&T 2011 but plan on switching to Delorme next year. The PIA is that everything is downloaded online these days. Software on CDs has gone to the graveyard & PCs with CD drives are right behind them.

Gotta love progress.

A free source of maps is OpenStreetMaps. I've been playing with the OsmAnd app on my Android tablet, and am quite impressed with its capabilities. I am as interested in recording my track as am in getting directions. For that it works as well for walking as for driving.

Just continue to use MST&T 2013 for planning purposes. Shoot, I'm still using 2009 and will for years to come.

Then get something like a Garmin 50LM for about $100. Or go a bit money that will handle routes. The garmin has life time maps which you can upload at your convenience.

This is the combination I use. I figure out my trip and make notes on route points. Go ahead and find them in the Garmin which adds them to Recent Find so easy to locate on the road. Works for me since I don't usually have a particular route in mind, but travel according to what roads look like and signs that point to things interesting.

I'm going to give Delorme Street Atlas, a try.
