Going East on I-40 from Flagstaff are Homolovi Ruins State Park near Winslow where you can stand on the corner. Meteor Crater and Petrified Forest National Park are not far from the New Mexico Border.
If you head Northeast from the Grand Canyon there is a lot to see in the Monument Valley/Bluff/Blanding Area:
