Suggestions on Vancouver Island

Will be ferrying over in the car ( no rv ) to Vancouver Island from Anacortes in mid June. Plan on spending a couple nights out there, and sightseeing.

I checked trip advisor, and most of the hotels gets some pretty bad reviews.

Any suggestions where to stay ( preferably ocean front ) for a couple nights? Not interested in a
B & B.

Also, not sure if we should take the bicycles, since we will only be staying 3-4 days.

Local recommendations on stuff to see? Killer food? Looking forward to our first international geocache, and the gardens in Victoria. Plan on checking out some little fishing villages and such.

Also, has anyone ever done a private tour of the San Juan Islands? Considering that, or renting a boat, but scared of getting lost, and not seeing all the cool sights around there.

Thanks much for any imput.

You might be able to get a substantially better rate than booking directly.

Just make sure if you use a third party booking agency that they will back you up if there's an issue. With sites like Expedia and Hotels.com you are on your own.

I have personally used these guys quite a few times with no issues at all. Quite a few other people from Calgary also use them to set up golf trips and weekends in Victoria. If they have space, they will be able to provide much better rates as they pre-book the hotels at much better rates than the general public. They are a full-fledged travel agency and can book flights too.

A travel agency and a 3rd party discount website are apples and oranges. It's great when an agency has special rates, as long as it's not offset by any fees they may charge.
