I have stayed in all of the cities mentioned, but my favorite remains San Miguel de Allende. If you have a smaller rig, you can stay in town, and walk wherever you want. You are a short distance from Guanajuato, probably the most beautiful city in Colonial Mexico, which has a park about 10km out of town. Patzcuaro also has a campground in town. If you have a tow vehicle, any of the cities mentioned will work.
