mannashine,
Today's update for you.
Went to the Rodeo last night. Really enjoyed it. Took the Rodeo Bus from Absaroka. $5 R/T was a bargain.
We went to Ponderosa to pickup some rodeo goers. It had been noted that Ponderosa was THE choice campground. I tried making reservations there and they were full. They suggested the Absaroka...what a blessing. After the rodeo, we went through the Ponderosa to drop off some rodeo goers. VERY dark, very crowded and rough gravel roads. Absaroka has paved lanes, gravel sites and lites at each site. MUCH better.
OK, today was the Beartooth Hwy. I took 120 north to 308 and then into Red Cloud. About one hour. Fast and relatively flat.
Had lunch at the Regis Grocery. VERY good.
Then I took 212 south, the Beartooth. What a drive! Beautiful scenery, worth the drive. DO NOT attempt with a TT. Highest point was just under 11,000 ft. Took my time and took a lot of pictures. The afternoon sun was perfect. At that elevation I was getting a little light headed. Then turned left on 296, the Chief Joseph hwy. Another absolutely beautiful hwy. Lots of snow still up their in the fields and valleys.
The return trip took about 4 1/2 hours with all my photo stops.
Thanks to all who recommended the Beartooth...
