Sometimes just one East/West and one North/South. However, we do not shun the interstates when they are convenient for bypassing or passing through the larger cities as driving/towing an RV on the local city streets can be less than fun. In some cases like I-40 through New Mexico, the interstate was overlaid on the route of US-66 and much of the old highway is nonexistant or the business route/frontage road in the towns along the way.
