Back to the EMS system we use. It protects us totally, and does not have a delay starting back up.
There are many brands of surge protectors or EMS. Could you share with us exactly what you use?
The reason for the time delay in the protectors we are aware of has to do with the AC compressor and the fact that some pressure must bleed off before the compressor powers up again - at least they tell us it something like that. So if an AC or possibly other device we use is sensitive to kick on and off cycles there could be damage - at least that is what they tell us. I am not sure but the fridge could also be sensitive to rapid on/off cycles?
Many of today's appliances and devices are very sensitive - control panel in fridge - TV - stereo - DVR - DVD/CD player - computers - even clocks - so we want to protect them. Many will work for awhile at low or high voltage but over time they will deteriorate to being useless. It is not only surges but wrong voltage that can damage equipment. It may not be immediate damage but deterioration over periods of time. We lived in Puerto Rico for a number of years and many TVs would not work for more than about a year - same with fridges - this was due to low voltage. We had several lower amp voltage regulators there and our stuff lasted longer than our neighbors. A few hundred dollars worth of protection can save thousands of dollars worth of equipment - and keep it working when we need it most.
