Surge protectors etc

Yea, I know that there were threads in the past (and I may have even started one) but technology changes. Saw this CHART of systems and started thinking.

In my 2 trips I never used a protector and never had a problem. Maybe just lucky. My rig isn't very complex but there probably is stuff that could be zapped. I frequently ran the fridge on gas to avoid that. Experience was low voltage not high. Folks I have talked to in the States say the hassle with protectors are that they alarm so much that they quit using them (kinda like putting tape over a red warning light in a car).

Maybe a friendly discussion on the need for devices in MX and the best candidates?

  • I purchased and have used a 50amp rated Hughes Autoformer now for two years. It provides a 10 percent voltage boost during low voltage situations. I was having problems due to low voltage conditions at my seasonal site (frequently below 108 volts) and have not had a problem since. The best $500 I could have spent.
  • We installed an EMS system in our new to us coach. As much as it can be a pain, it does protect us perfectly from the vagrancies of Mexican electricity. We have had it installed 3.5 years, and are very glad we have it.

It's made by Progressive Industries, specifically for RV's.

We have had so many friends have their refrigerators, water heaters and roof air conditioners replaces every few years, and, in our opinion, due to electricity here.
