Of course we remember 25 cents a gallon - gasoline or diesel. When I did my first real road trip in 1971 I left NY with about $700. Drove all over the US and Mexico for about 6 months - 17,000 miles - returned to NY with about $3. I know gas was around 25 in US but have no recollection of what it was in Mexico.
I think about 8 years ago we were paying close to $5 in the US - over $4.50 anyway. We drove south of Deming, NM to Palomas, Mexico and checked with US Customs to make sure it was OK to cross for fuel and just turn around to return. They said they do it. We bought over 100 gallons for about $1.80 a gallon based on conversion etc. Now that has flip flopped. Who knows what is next. We still keep roaming around and still haven't gone broke.
