The best way from Syracuse if you just want to get there is I 90 to I 271 at Cleveland, OH I 71 south I270 around Columbus, OH I 70 to just east of ST Louis I 255 south to I 270 west to I 44 west just north of Oklahoma City I 35 south to I 40 west all the way to Barstow, CA then I 15 south to where ever you are going to in So Cal The weather should be good at that time of the year. Tornado season gets going about May and June. I drove those routes for a living for 35 years and have drove from NY to CA and back probably 350 times.... . There are plenty of ways to get to So Cal but that is the fastest, less Mts. way there is.
