For the stretch I-70 west to Denver, and then I-25 south to ABQ, keep in mind that April is the snowiest month in Colorado. Not just the mountains. Some of our biggest snowfalls along the I-25 corridor have been in the March/April time frame. The good news is that, even if a big storm comes through, it melts off rather quickly and the various road crews do a good job of keeping thing open.
Personally, I'd do the I-81 to I-40 route, but drop down I-40/I-30/I-20/I-10.
