Don't forget the time issue. Yes, at times especially on some week ends there could be a wait.
Not going to argue the time/fuel issue, I think for my money unless the Tacoma Narrows bridge crossing was on the bucket list the ferry would be a great way to avoid driving through Seattle or Bellevue, and Tacoma!!
I worked out of Bellevue for years and serviced the Olympic Peninsula, I always had a current ferry schedule on the sun visor of my van.
What about reservations? I know they have for the San Juans.
