With Sequim as your destination Tacoma Narrows is the shorter to 2 major bridges. Hood Canal is longer - and floating. Puget Sound has lots of peninsulas and islands. Sequim is on the Olympic Peninsula. The bridges go to and from Kitsap Peninsula. And depending on the route you could also drive on Brainbridge Island or Whidbey Island.
From Everett the most enjoyable trip is the Mukileo ferry to Whidbey Island, and leisurely drive along half the island, and another ferry to to Port Townsend.
Well if you go south to Tacoma and take the Narrows, you also need to take the Hood Canal to get to Squim.
If you take the ferries, you can take the two ferry route Mukilteo to Clinton and Coupville to Port Townsend. That or drive a bit further south and take Edmonds to Kingston, then over the Hood Canal floating bridge.
