Taylor and Top of the World Highways

I've just reached "substantial completion" of new guides to the Taylor Highway and the Top of the World Highway. Between them, there's almost 80 photos to show you what the highway looks like and what's along it. It covers the entire Taylor from the Alaska Highway to Eagle - photos of that northern section aren't seen often. With links to other pages, it starts here.
  • We made that trip in 2000 after a friend warned us very strongly against taking the Taylor and TOW. Didn't see anything to suggest it was the wrong choice. We did see a pothole or two or three thousand, one so big there was a traffic cone in the pothole the pothole was full of rain water and only about 6" of the cone was visible. The TOW was badly washed boarded but at slow speed a great trip and an easy drive. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
  • Looks like you used a more suitable rig for the trip. In 2010 we were in a 2002 32' DP towing a Chevy Tracker.

This is part of the highway between Tok and Chicken. The road to Eagle was still closed due to the floods and washouts. we went two days after the road to Chicken has re-opened. :S

For the rest of the trip to Dawson City here is a link to our blog.
  • Murray also has numerous videos on YouTube, the ones I have watched are very good. Varied subjects from the Yukon, motorcycling, aircraft, etc. well worth a look. Just sign into YouTube.com and in the search box, type in his name, Murray Lundberg.
  • May are concerned about taking the Taylor and Top Of the World but those were two of the more fantastic scenery portions of our entire trip.
  • Thanks - brings back good memories of my trip trough there in 2005 (May and June, fortunately)
