Telcel Sin Limite

I came across this cell phone plan in another forum. I did not want to post this info until I did some of the research. Here is a link to the plan

Telcel in 3 countries!

Has anyone tried this service? 23 days of cell service that works in the USA, Canada and Mexico for 100 pesos is very inexpensive. I stopped at a Telcel store and he gave me some additional info. You can purchase say 310 pesos and when you get to the 23 days just text and they apply 100 pesos. After the 3rd 23 day period you will need more time. If you have an unlocked foreign cell they will sell you a Telcel SIM and your cell will work with that plan. I saw a nice Lanix phone with a 5 inch screen ( have you noticed that Mexicans have phones with a screen that is almost a tablet!) for under 1700 pesos. Amigo is a pay as you go service. No contract. I didn't ask if you can make calls from one country to another at no additional charge but suspect that is OK. I also did not ask if you can use their phones as a Hotspot. If you are buying a phone they will program it in English. There are some phones that are much cheaper. Around 1000 pesos. I have been using a dumb phone but this is a much better choice. I will try and get more information.

On edit: Yes you can call from one country to another. Your data rolls over to the next month. For 100 pesos you can buy 500 mb of data as an extra.

As an aside I was buying gas at a Pemex the other day. I always ask for a specific amount of litres and make sure they enter the data into the pump. I turned away and when I looked at the pump it was running. I asked the attendant why she did not program the pump. She pulled out a huge Samsung phone and showed me the data from the pump. There was a special app in the phone that allowed her to do all the data entry on the phone. Technology!!!

If any Canadians have a Rogers phone they have a plan that allows you to use your phone in Mexico and the USA. I think it is called Roam Like Home. Your Canadian plan extends to the USA for $5.00 a day . But after 10 days the plan is free for the rest of the month. Same for Mexico but it is $10.00 a day. I use mine in the USA all the time. I tried it in Magdalena and the service was great. LTE.

  • Oxxo stores sell cheap phones that you can add the program, the white phone is the most expensive one at 399.00 pesos that comes to about $21.00 USD plus the chip, I do not have a price for the chip all the big store, Walmart, Soriana, Chedraui, Comercial Mexicana etc. Sell phones rather cheap and they actually work better than some of the expensive ones, my niece uses the Oxxo phone for her business.

  • There is no free lunch. I had one of those cheap phones. You pay by the minute and it is not cheap. No internet and hard to text. I posted the info about the sin limite as it gives travelers a phone and internet. Can also be used in the USA and unlimited calls. Everyone has different needs and it is good that we have choices.

  • BE AWARE!
TelCel has many plans. From cheap to noteworthy. A month to month MONTHLY plan is not a contract. And it is a heck of a lot cheaper than a fixed price plan that lasts 60 days. I am graduating to a 500 peso/month plan that allows 5+ gigabytes internet and many hours USA call time and unlimited Mexico time. WhatsApp is a very popular application down here. When there are no modems and no cafes a cellular is the only access possible*. In rural area, cell internet may be slow but I use it 2-4 AM if really necessary.

*I need it for banking and for cardiac medicines.
