Telcel Sin Limite

I came across this cell phone plan in another forum. I did not want to post this info until I did some of the research. Here is a link to the plan

Telcel in 3 countries!

Has anyone tried this service? 23 days of cell service that works in the USA, Canada and Mexico for 100 pesos is very inexpensive. I stopped at a Telcel store and he gave me some additional info. You can purchase say 310 pesos and when you get to the 23 days just text and they apply 100 pesos. After the 3rd 23 day period you will need more time. If you have an unlocked foreign cell they will sell you a Telcel SIM and your cell will work with that plan. I saw a nice Lanix phone with a 5 inch screen ( have you noticed that Mexicans have phones with a screen that is almost a tablet!) for under 1700 pesos. Amigo is a pay as you go service. No contract. I didn't ask if you can make calls from one country to another at no additional charge but suspect that is OK. I also did not ask if you can use their phones as a Hotspot. If you are buying a phone they will program it in English. There are some phones that are much cheaper. Around 1000 pesos. I have been using a dumb phone but this is a much better choice. I will try and get more information.

On edit: Yes you can call from one country to another. Your data rolls over to the next month. For 100 pesos you can buy 500 mb of data as an extra.

As an aside I was buying gas at a Pemex the other day. I always ask for a specific amount of litres and make sure they enter the data into the pump. I turned away and when I looked at the pump it was running. I asked the attendant why she did not program the pump. She pulled out a huge Samsung phone and showed me the data from the pump. There was a special app in the phone that allowed her to do all the data entry on the phone. Technology!!!

If any Canadians have a Rogers phone they have a plan that allows you to use your phone in Mexico and the USA. I think it is called Roam Like Home. Your Canadian plan extends to the USA for $5.00 a day . But after 10 days the plan is free for the rest of the month. Same for Mexico but it is $10.00 a day. I use mine in the USA all the time. I tried it in Magdalena and the service was great. LTE.

  • Pay phones are out. There's no money in it and they spend more time repairing them because of vandals. Everyone has a cellphone and they are practically free.

We have Movistar and the service is not as good as Telcel because of coverage. With this news from Moisheh I think we are ready to change. I don't call the U.S. or Canada but when I work in the U.S. I guess it would come in handy for those few days.
  • We used the LADA phones that took the prepaid chipped card - but that was still 50 cents a minute to the US - and quite often street traffic noise made the calls very difficult to hear.
Skype or Google over the PC is very convenient and inexpensive.
  • It was because of one of those dumb pay phones that I went and bought the phone today. Called Canada about 5 times!! I am told they use Verizon and ATTT in the USA. My phone can be used a hotspot.

  • My buddy in Tijuana has had this plan for about two years, we are getting this for my phone when the ATT contract expires next month, pay phones in Mexico are a joke if they work at all, you need a debit or credit card with a chip and they are expensive, specially if you do not have enough coins.
