Waterton-Cameron Lake if you can get to it. The road was closed because of repaving while we were there the 1st couple of weeks in July. Red Rock Canyon also. New road. You're driving right in the mountains. The townsite doesn't have as many animals anymore but there are the odd deer roaming around. Saw lots of bears going up to Red Rock Canyon almost every day. You just have to drive slowly to see them. Drumheller is right in the badlands of Canada. Great museum to take in. We stayed at the Hoodoos Campground there 2 years ago. Make sure you bring warm clothes with you. We've been out here since June 24 and there haven't been that many days were we have worn shorts and t shirts. That may sound good as I know Ontario has been quite hot since we've been away. We're up here in the Edmonton area and leave for home the day after Labour Day. On edit I forgot to mention the boat ride from Waterton down into Montana.

Dano Ren. No we will take 17 days to get to Kimberley from Sarnia, ON. The trip back will probably take 3 or 4 weeks or longer if the weather is decent. Lonnie. Thanks for the invite but I think we will most likely hit Saskatoon on the way home so you will be gone. Thanks for the campground suggestion.

If you stay in Saskatoon I would recommend Gordon Howe Campsite in downtown Saskatoon. It is owned by the city and is a great place to park. Would suggest reservations.

Are you really doing this trip in 17 days??? or I do not understand your post?this trip shpoud take 6 months if you want to see,hike,meet people and enjoy.
You will not have the time to go to the bathroom if you do it this way.
I suggest you chose a smaller area and explore it.

Thanks luckyd We have been to Banff, Lake Louise, Columbia Ice fields and Jasper so we will pass this time. Interesting info about Drumheller and Brooks. Just the kind of information we are looking for. Yes hoping to do the Going to the Sun Hwy.

You will want to see Banff, Lake Louise, Columbia Icefields.
While in Waterton, drive "going to the sun" Highway.
Drumheller is famous for the dinosaurs and has a great museum,
but the area around Brooks is actually the dinosaur area.
While in Drumheller, drive out to East Coulee. It is a deserted
mining town but the road has eleven bridges in a few miles. Very
interesting area.

Thanks all. We know the trip out will be fast. Attending a wedding Sept 17. Taking more time to come home. Finding campgrounds open will be more of a challenge. I guess we are most interested in great scenery. Outdoor life. Tree colours. Lakes. Planning on a couple of days in Thunder Bay Historical Park. A couple of days in Waterton. We know we will miss a lot but wanted some ideas. I think Drumheller will also be on list coming home. Please keep the ideas coming. Others might be interested and we can always store ideas for another time. Also we are starting in Sarnia and heading for Sault canada the first day,

Dinosaur provincial park outside of Medicine Hat.

We were in parts of that route last fall about the same time you will be there. We loved the area north of the Lake of the Woods around Kenora and Riding Mountain National Park northwest of Winnipeg. Wonderful scenery, clear lakes, great boating/kayaking/fishing, lots of wildlife (including a bull moose standing in the center of Route 10 in RMNP and stopping traffic in both directions). We were camped in a FHU campground in Wasagaming, MB, over a beautiful, sunny, fall weekend and the town was virtually empty.

We were also in Waterton NP in mid-September a few years earlier. Followed a herd of bighorn sheep into town (very slowly) on the only access road. It rained hard one night while we were there, but there were still enough leaves left to get some great fall-color photos.

I'm a geologist, so I admit to being biased, but the Paleontology Museum in Drumheller is not to be missed.

We love traveling that time of the year!
