We are thinking of going in late March if this helps.
I-40 will be driveable most days, but late March could still have some snow falling in the passes, and be cold.
Wind can be an issue between Gallup and Flagstaff at times.
It's a day to day thing.
The more southern route is better if you are on a schedule and can't sit out bad weather.
If you go I-40, be sure to make a side-trip into downtown Grants, NM - and go through the local mining museum. A great, fantastic, stop.
