Texas to Portland, ME
I am looking for suggestions in planning a route from central Texas to Portland, Me. I would like to avoid large cities and too many toll roads. Our schedule allows us 5 days to get there. Thanks

The Tolls last spring were $3.05 for the NY bridge toll, $3.15 for the mass pike to exit 11A and $5.00 for the Hampton tolls. Not sure what the Maine toll at Kittery is now but would guess it is under $5.00. These rates are based on billing to our EZPASS. We were in a motor home with a toad. The only city we find a little hairy is nearing Hartford, so we try to get there early afternoon before the rush hour and although the lanes keep shifting, we try to stay in a center lane to avoid the aggressive people entering from the on ramps.
I-30 in TX to
I-40 in AR to
I-81 in TN to
I-380 (near Scranton, PA) to
I-84 in PA to
I-90 (Mass Pike) go one exit to
I-290 in MA to
I-495 in MA to
I-95 in MA to Portland
You pay to cross the Hudson River in NY and you pay for 12 miles on the Mass Turnpike plus about 70 miles of I-95 in ME.
I-20, I-59, I-75, I-40 then above might be quicker depending on where you are in TX.
I have a place in the RGV and relatives in NH and have tried every route there is.
