Texas to Portland, ME
I am looking for suggestions in planning a route from central Texas to Portland, Me. I would like to avoid large cities and too many toll roads. Our schedule allows us 5 days to get there. Thanks

Regarding places to stay along your route. Your profile lists TX as your residence and starting point. TX is a big place. I suggest listing your start point and how many miles you plan to drive each day.
As an example...... Temple, TX to Portland is a little over 2000 miles. Driving 400 miles a day gets you there in 5 days. BUT, there is a difference in driving from TX with open roads and high speed limits to the northeast with hills, towns and lower speeds.
We will leave from College Station, TX and plan to drive around 400 each day. We will leave on Aug. 15 and need to be there on Aug. 19 for a seminar starting the next day. It looks to be about 2000 miles.
