THE # 1 tourist destination in the WORLD !!

WORLD'S #1 ,,,,, AND GOING VIA RV !!!

Yesterday I was reading a tourist magizine and surprised to see the World's #1 tourist attraction is Machu Picchu in Peru. see http://www.tripadvisor.com/TravelersChoice-Attractions-cLandmarks-g1-a_Mode.expanded

I was especially surprised because I am about to depart on the RV Expedition that actually goes to this destination, the highest city in the world, over 14k feet, and this Incas monument is now the world's destination.

You can't drive the RV there, but go from Cisco, which is the launching point. We actually visited in October of 2008. A REALLY good guide of the ruins is a must! Don't forget about the mountain, Wayna Picchu, too. You can climb it for a view of the ruins below if there aren't clouds covering them. It's a hard hike up stone steps that are carved into the mountain, but worth it!

Be prepared for rain in the mornings!! When the locals and tourist info say to bring ponchos, they mean it. We hiked Wayna in the rain and that made the steps slick, so exercise caution and be sure to hold on to the chain when it's there! I'd be a goner if I hadn't! It's a beautiful hike, though!

  • What makes it number 1? Clearly not most visited. Bangkok is most visited for 2013. Right at 14 million. London is second. Also right at 14 million.
  • Wow, that trip sounds awesome! Doesn't Pan American highway end the Darian? Where do you pick it back up? Enjoy your trip!
  • On my bucket list but not at the Top. Sounds like you are going to have a great adventure. If you will wait a couple of years will meet you in Texas for departure, LOL!

  • I don't believe that's the number one destination in the world either. I suspect there's a lot of conditions to that claim.

In any event, it sounds like a neat trip.

Right, we did it in 1983 I think. The train only had my wife and I the driver, a gard with a auto- rifle and his girl friend. Only 7 people were in the hotel at the top. (Band deano's I guess why )We set in the front seat, and in those days the driver was in a enclose booth next to use. Ran over a pig, rode 3.5 hours of the greatest ride in our lifes. The plane ride was something else to, they had a green ammo box they passed around before the flight, I asked some one why, he said you could put your gun in it if you wanted to or not.

  • I forgot to include we are leaving from Texas the end of July, traveling via the Pan American Highway to Panama, and South America. Should be arriving in Peru sometime again in October.

We then continue on the Pan Am Highway south to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil...back home before Christmas....from 100+ degrees weather in Texas, to back to the cold winter!!! Oh, well !!!!!
