I never, hopefully it's obvious, saw the Glenn in 1948 and, unfortunately, I can't take a drive/look (being stuck in Ewe-stun until December), but that very first photo looks a lot like approaching modern-day Eagle River vs. Eklutna.
In a general sense, in 1948 before Anchorage grew and before JBER was anywhere near the size it is now, anywhere E/NE of Anchorage (even near current Eagle River) would be considered "near" Eklutna since there was nothing between Anchorage and Palmer of any size.
I'll have to look in a few weeks :)
